Animated Oscar Three-way Imaginary Fight

February 18, 2009 · 6 Comments

In a semi-ongoing topic, I like to introduce imaginary fights, and ask the ever important (at least to guys) question of “who would win in a fight?”   As I was cruising across some of the Oscar information, I saw the category of Best Animated Feature Film.  There were three main nominees:  Bolt, Kung Fu Panda, and Wall-E.  All three are super in their own way, but the question is who would win out if it was a battle-royale that decide the Oscar?

So, my question to you, dear reader, is who would win that fight?  Who would come out the winner and hold the Oscar up as their prize?  The rules are simple:

In the comment section, post the following:

  1. Who would win the fight amongst the three?
  2. Why would they be victorious?
  3. Is there an x-factor that people might not account for?

I’m intrigued to see who the winner of this head to head to head would be.  So, let’s see how you have stayed on top of 2008s animated films.

Depends…does Wall-E get lasers? If so, I’m with the machines. If not, Kung Fu Panda. After all Bolt is just an actor.

Yes, Bolt may be an actor, but he believes. There’s a lot to be said for simply believing. Oh, and yes to the lasers.

Then Wall-E wins. Totally. Lasers beat belief. I for one welcome our new robot overlords.

Kung fu Panda would win because man always beats machine in the long run due to creative thinking, even if they have to ask them a logical impossibility question like “I’m lying to you, not tell me if I’m telling the truth in that last sentence”, like Captain Kirk to fry their computer brain,or something.

The X-factor would be some crazy device or attachment Wall-E would have hidden in his compactor, made of random parts he collected over the years, that turns the late tide of the fight back into his favor, making it look impossible for Panda to win, until Panda comes through at the last second when everything looks lost.

It’s too bad that it had to come to this, I really liked Wall-E.

You know, in a post-Matrix world, I like this thought of the Panda winning. If 2001: A Space Odyssey has taught us nothing, it’s that man (and in this case panda) can overcome his struggle over machine. I think the Achilles heel is that Wall-E is solar, old, and runs a chance of breaking down during the fight. I take this stance because I’m not a big fan of the robot overlords, and I’d like to think that I could take a MacBook if I had too. Also, 2001 taught us that, much like Wall-E, you could have huge chunks of movies without any dialogue. The last minute win would also be a tremendous “Hollywood” ending. Considering that none of their films are indie, it would be likely to that it would happen.

On a side note, it seems like no one has faith that Bolt would even stand a chance. The hamster perhaps, but not Bolt.
