I’ve been listening to a lot of music recently. Okay, so I always listen to a lot of music, but it seems like I’ve really been paying closer attention to it. Of course much is the case with some albums, certain songs are great but others could stink up a room more than a middle school boy after gym class. There were a couple of albums that I listened to that had shown flashes of brilliance, and some others that just showed lots of corporate influence (which isn’t bad if you’re into that kind of music). In the course of listening I was struck with the following question: What’s the greatest album of all time?
Now, the first thing that I should say is that it is an album. It’s the complete “package”, not just a song. (That’s another post for another time.) The album, in whatever format that you perfer (mp3, CD, tape, record, maybe even 8-track), that you can just hit play and listen to the entire thing. This is the CD that you can’t pick your favorite song because they all are. So my question to you, dear reader, is in your humble opinion, what is the greatest album of all time? From start to finish, who has put together a more perfect piece of musical expression? Is it still relevant today or perhaps it was just written?
A couple of quick things:
- Place your answer in the comments.
- Give the title of the album, the artist, and why you think it’s the greatest of all time.
- This is not limited by genre. Everything is wide open.
- There is no such thing as a wrong answer. (Okay, there might be, but…)
So, let’s see what you think about this stuff. I’ve got a couple of albums rolling around in my head, but I’m not completely sure of what the answer should be. Let’s hear it, dear reader, what’s the greatest album of all time?
